Encouragement-- Part 1

Texico Conference - Someone has suggested that the ten most powerful words in the English language are: alone, the bitterest word; friendship, the warmest word; death, the most tragic word; faith, the noblest word; forgotten, the saddest word; love, the most beautiful word; revenge, the angriest word; tranquility, the most peaceful word; no, the coldest word; and mother, the most revered word.

Unique ministry reaches the hard-to-reach

Santa Fe Southwest - (Santa Fe, N.Mex.) The weekend of June 20-22 was very exciting for our church. On Friday Eric Martinez, Michael Maestas, and Willy Ramos, the "Ghetto Preacher," were permitted entrance to the New Mexico State Penitentiary to sing and preach the gospel to the inmates. In level two, after Willy gave his testimony, 14 inmates responded to the gospel and accepted Christ. Level six is maximum security and the inmates could not come together as a group, but Eric, Michael, and Willy went from cell to cell singing and praying with the inmates. They were able to encourage an Adventist inmate who has been witnessing to other inmates and who has eight inmates preparing for baptism.

Bible studies lead to baptism

Rio Rancho - (N.Mex.) I was visiting Brad Curtis, the husband of one of our members, Alisia Curtis, during his illness and asked him about being baptized. He expressed an interest in being baptized and joining the church, so we began studies after the first of the year. We actually finished his studies in mid-May, but he desired to delay being baptized until June or July. He was baptized on June 28th at the Rio Rancho church.

Our newest member at Rio Rancho

Rio Rancho - (N.Mex.) Millicent Lindsay is the newest member of our church. Monica Dawson had given Millicent the Discover Bible lessons, but Millicent still had questions and wanted further study, so Monica contacted me. I set an appointment and we began studying the Bible together. All of her questions were answered with Bible truth and she wanted to give her life to Jesus and become part of our church. Millicent was baptized on April 26. Millicent has two young children, a boy and a girl. She is already involved in our Adventurer Club. Here she is pictured as she receives her baptismal certificate.

Affirming home education

Southwestern Union - Home school leaders from across the Southwestern Union gathered at the union office on June 15-16 for the first annual Southwestern Union Home School Workshop. Featuring presentations by veteran home schoolers, such as Debbie Burghart from Little Rock, Ark., Suzanne Lutz from Albuquerque, N.Mex., and Kerrie Kimbrow and Karen Weber from the Keene, Tex., area, participants reviewed Seventh-day Adventist home school philosophy and practice as well as curriculum selection and development.

Diversity celebration brings revival

Arlington All Nation - (Arlington, Tex.) Our church has traditionally celebrated International Month in May to commemorate the diversity that abounds within the church family. This year, the church was revived by winning new souls, attaining unity in purpose, and strengthening families and ministries.

Food bank outreach blesses community

Shattuck - (Okla.) "Should we or shouldn't we?" This question haunted the Shattuck church for several months after they received a call for help from the Regional Food Bank in Oklahoma City. The RFB was requesting their assistance in becoming a food distribution center for Ellis County. After much consultation and prayer, they decided to give it a try.
